Mictlantecuhtli

Mictlantecuhtli is the governor of Mictlan, the realm of the dead. He was associated with the night, bats, spiders and owls, and all the wails and creepy sounds of the dark covered nocturnal time.
To create life, Quetzalcoatl needed the bones from those that lived in the previous world, the Fourth Sun. First Mictlantecuhtli agreed but when Quetzalcoatl came to collect the bones Mictlantecuhtli changed his mind, offering him a test, to making sound out of a closed conch. Fortunately, Quetzalcoatl managed to escape and surpass the test. However, on his way back up he dropped some bones and broke some of them. This explains why humans have all different sizes.
